Greenhill Baptist Church has a rich history that began more than 60 years ago:
1960 – Pastor Bernard Fritzke, his wife Lorraine, and their sons came to Cedar Falls with the mission of planting a North American Baptist (NAB) church. Services first met at the YMCA in Waterloo.
1963 – As the congregation grew, land was purchased on Cedar Heights Drive. At the time, the area was known as Cedarloo, so the church became Cedarloo Baptist Church. The building was constructed by a member who was a contractor, and landscaping was provided by fellow NAB churches.
Late 1960s–1980s – After Pastor Fritzke, leadership passed to Pastor Ray Harsch and then Pastor Iver Walker, who faithfully served from 1969 to 1983. During these years, the church flourished, with strong music ministry and deep community life.
1987–1995 – Pastor Jack Holmes served briefly before Pastor Ed Rafferty became pastor in 1987. He baptized 39 people during his time at Cedarloo.
1995 – Pastor Ron Bartlett became pastor and led the congregation in adopting a new name: Greenhill Baptist Church, reflecting both the neighborhood and a fresh vision for ministry.
2001–Present – Pastor Orville J. Erickson has faithfully led Greenhill Baptist Church, shepherding the congregation through seasons of growth, outreach, and continued gospel ministry.
Through all these years, God has been faithful. What began as a small group of believers has grown into a church family committed to serving Cedar Falls and beyond with the love of Christ.
